SESSION-3
“LEARN SPOKEN ENGLISH FROM HOME”. – By MaddaliSwetha
PRONUNCIATION:
One of
the major problems which learners of English face
is its pronunciation. The English pronunciation system is irregular -
there is no one-to-one correspondence between spelling and pronunciation. For instance,
the alphabet 'a' is pronounced in three different ways in the
words ' apple ' ' art ' ' about '! This may not be very difficult for those who
speak English as their mother - tongue because they learn it by hearing correct
English being spoken around them. But those who learn English as a second or foreign
language find its erratic pronunciation a major hurdle in speaking
the language properly.
so, in this
pattern of accent in English is a second point of difficulty.
Unlike the rhythm and accent of Indian languages which is
even, English speech patterns lay emphasis on some specific
syllables and a great variety of intonations. All this makes the rhythm
of English greatly different from the familiar ones heard in
this country. Therefore, much effort has to be spent in mastering the
correct pronunciation and rhythm of English.

a beautiful country.
