CAN YOU SOLVE THIS PUZZLES? - By MaddaliSwetha



1. THE ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE:


Six friends are sitting around a circular table at equal distance from each other. ‘S’ is sitting two places right of ‘A’, who is exactly opposite to ‘R’. ‘R’ is on the immediately left to ‘H’, who is exactly opposite to ‘N’. ‘Y’ is also sitting at the table.
Who is the only person sitting between ‘A’ and ‘S’? And what is the angle subtended by subtended by ‘Y’ and ‘R’.

Answer: ‘N’; 120 degree.


2. ALL IN THE FAMILY:


A, C, D, E, F AND G are six members of a family. A is the father of C, but C is not his son. D is a sibling of C. E is D’s brother-in-law. F is G’s grandson. G is D’s mother.
How many male members are there in the family?


Answer: 4 male members (A, D, F, E)


3. AN APPLE A DAY:


Peter plucks apples. He sells some of them, distributes some among his friends, eats some and takes the rest back home. How many apples did he eat 1/3 rd of the plucked apples, which is 12 less than what he had plucked?


Answer: Peter ate ‘6’ apples.


4. AN UP – LIFTING QUESTION:


A lift is on the ground floor. There are 4 people in the lift including john. When the lift reaches the first floor, 1 person gets out and 3 people get in. The lift goes up to the second floor, 2 people get out and 6 people get in. It then goes up to the next floor, no one gets out but 12 people get in. Halfway up to the next floor, the lift cable snaps, and lift crashed to the floor. Everyone dies in the lift.

Answer: John may be the one person who got down in first floor or one among the two, who got down in second floor.


5. ACROSS THE RIVER:


A man lives small house by a river and has a farm as his back garden. On the other side of the river is a shop. One day he visits the shop. He buys a chicken and a fox for his farm, and a bag of corn to feed chicken. The man can only take one thing and himself across the river in the boat.
Without killing any animal or letting another eat an item or animal, how will the man get across?

Answer: At first, the man transports the chicken to the other side, comes back and takes fox to the other side. He now brings back chicken and takes corn to the side. Finally he gets the chicken.

6. SOCKS AND SHOES:


You are in the dark, and on the floor there are 6 shoes of 3 colors, and a heap of 24 socks, black and brown. How many socks and shoes must you take into the light to be certain that you have a matching pair of socks and a matching pair of shoes?

Answer: 4 shoes and 3 socks.


7. COCO – JUMBO:


 Five men crash – land their airplane on a deserted island in the south pacific. On their first day they gather as many coconuts as they can find into one big pile. They decide that, since it is getting dark, they will wait until the next day to divide the coconuts. That night each man takes turn watching for rescue searchers while the others sleep. The first watcher gets bored so he decides to divide the coconuts into 5 equal piles. When he does this, he finds that he has one remaining coconut. He gives this coconut to a monkey, takes one of the piles, and hides it for himself. Then he jumbles up the four other piles into big pile again. To cut a long story short, each of the five men ends up doing exactly the same thing. Each divides the coconuts into five piles and hides those coconuts. Each comes back and jumbles up the remaining four piles into one bid pile.

What is the smallest number of coconuts there could have been in the original piles?

Answer: 3906
