HEALTH BENEFITS AND NUTRITION FACTS OF GUAVA FRUIT – By MaddaliSwetha


Guavas are an excellent source of essential minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron. Guava fruit contain rich source of vitamin C presenting up to 4 times the amount of oranges. 

It is inexpensive but highly rich in nutrients. Due to its high nutrient content it becomes healthy food. Guava contains the highest source of Vitamin C (3 times more than daily requirement).



So it significantly increases immune system function. As Vitamin C is an antioxidant, it protects from oxidative stress. Here is some of its health benefits i.e,


1. IMPROVES YOUR IMMUNITY:

Guava is an excellent source of Vitamin C. Guavas contains four times the Vitamin C content present in oranges. Vitamin C helps in improving your immunity and thus keeps your body healthy and protects it from infections like cough, allergy and cold.
 

2. THYROID HEALTH:

Guavas are a good source for copper, which is an important part of regulating thyroid metabolism by helping to control hormone production and absorption. The thyroid gland is one of the most important glands in the body for regulating hormones and organ system function, so guava can help balance your health in many ways.


3. REDUCE THE RISK OF CANCER:

Being rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants like lycopene (లైకోపీన్), eating guavas can protect your cells from damage and reduce your chances of getting cancer. Additionally, Vitamin C boosts your immunity which is critical in fighting cancer cells.


4. AGEING:

Ageing is the most common problem in our busy life. Ageing is mostly caused to natural factor like increase in age. But due to pollution, UV radiation and smoke ageing process has been stimulated at an early age and it is faster than natural. The main cause of ageing is free radical produced in our body due to high oxidative stress caused due to pollution. But antioxidants have proven to destroy these free radicals to slow the ageing process. It has also been found that people eating high antioxidant foods have slow ageing effect than natural. So guava proves best food to slow the ageing process than natural.

Rich in fibre and with a low glycaemic index, guavas can be consumed by diabetics and those who want to prevent diabetes. When you have diabetes, your body stops producing insulin which is responsible for the absorption of glucose. Consuming fruits and vegetables rich in fibre is recommended.

Diabetes is a serious disease in which the body cannot properly control the amount of sugar in your blood because it does not have enough insulin. In other words, diabetes means a disorder of the metabolism causing excessive thirst and the production of large amounts of urine.

Guavas are not as rich in Vitamin A as carrots; they are still a very good source of the nutrient. Vitamin A helps keeps your eyes in good condition, and also helps improve your vision. Night blindness is one of the diseases associated with a Vitamin A deficiency.

Another of the tremendous positive benefits of guavas is the presence of B3 and B6 vitamins. B3 (also known as niacin) can increase blood flow and stimulates cognitive function. It helps in improving blood circulation to the brain and relaxing your nerves.

Guavas contain Folic acid, or Vitamin B-9, which is recommended for pregnant mothers since it can help in developing the baby’s nervous system and protect the newborn from neurological disorders.

Guava is one of the richest sources of dietary fiber in terms of fruit. Constipation is caused when food is stuck in our colon. Guava is rich in fibre which helps in clearing the blocked pathway and thus curing your constipation.

Guava is very helpful for those who want to lose weight without compromising their intake of proteins, vitamins and fiber. Guava is very high rich in vitamins, proteins and minerals, but it has no cholesterol and a low number of digestible carbohydrates.  

Guava, especially raw guava, also has far less sugar as compared to apples, oranges, grapes, and other fruit. Adding a medium-sized guava to your lunch and you will not feel hungry again until the evening. Ironically, it can also help with weight gain in lean, thin people. This is probably due to its wealth of nutrients, which keep the metabolism regulates and helps to promote the proper absorption of nutrients.

Guava is called as a super-fruit is blessed with many nutrients by nature and which helps in improving blood circulation to the brain and relaxing your nerves. Eating guava in your diet can help you increase brain function and sharpen you focus. 

Guava is also beneficial in treating gastroenteritis. And Keep your skin glowing and free from signs of premature aging, wrinkles and other dermal disorders. Ripe guava should be avoided by people who are suffering from cough and cold and one should also avoid drinking water immediately after eating guava as it can lead to a sore throat. Thus, Guava is very rich in astringents (compounds that make your gums feel tighter and fresher).

HOW TO EAT GUAVA?

Guava is a tropical fruit. Depending on the variety, the color of a guava is pale green or yellow.  A whole guava contains a number of nutrients, including vitamin C, potassium, dietary fiber, and vitamin A. Store ripe guavas in the refrigerator for up to two days.

THINGS YOU WILL NEED:

Paring knife – 1

Teaspoon – 1

Small Plate – 1

Salt – 1 pinch 

Red chilli powder – 1 pinch

Chat masala powder – 1 pinch (if necessary)


STEPS:

1. Rinse a guava under cool running water. After it place it in a plate and cut the guava in half crossways pieces with the help of paring knife.

2. Place it into a plate and garnish with salt (to taste) and red chilli powder (instead (బదులుగా) of red chilli powder you can use chat masala powder to eat).


MY SUGGESTION:


Some may have facing chew problem or teeth treatment for them my suggestion – Use a teaspoon to remove seeds from the center of the guava fruit. The guava is ready to eat. Serve guava with yogurt, or cut the guava in chunks (రాళ్లను) and add it to a fruit salad with orange, sliced bananas and other fruit. But never ignore guava in your diet because guava contains a number of nutrients, including vitamin C, potassium, dietary fiber, and vitamin A.


GUAVA FACE WASH

INTRODUCTION:

Mostly these days, busy work schedule leads to heavy stress and you tend (ఉంటాయి) to use face washes which are available in market, but I recommended to you to use this herbal homemade skin tonic. It’s very easy to prepare and use and no harm no chemical. It tonic gives you soft and shine skin.

ITEMS LIST:

Guava Leaf (ఆకు) – 2

Fresh Neem Leaf (ఆకు) –5

Tulsi Leaf (ఆకు) – 5

Water – 1 Full Glass

Small Bowl – 1


STEPS:

1. Put all (Guava, Tulsi, Neem) the leaves (ఆకులు) in a bowl with 1 glass of water.

2. Put the leaves into the bowl and keep it aside for overnight.



3. Next Morning take the bowl, Grind and mix the leaves using hands (or you can remove the leaf from bowl and use it).



4. Wash your face and hand with this cleansed herbal homemade tonic.  While cleaning your face if you wish to use soap for face then you can.


USES OF HERBAL TONIC:

The Neem leaf keeps your skin free of acne (మొటిమల) and other infections. The astringent property of guava leaves keeps your skin tight and wrinkle (ముడతలు) free. It works well for pimples too.  Tulsi imparts the glow to your skin and keeps it healthy. 

You will notice the change within two weeks. Your skin will turn visibly healthy. You can prepare this in appropriate quantity and store in the refrigerator for 2 days in a glass bottle. Wash your face at least twice with this natural tonic.
