There are the two types of scenario
in management style.
1. Coach management style:
Coach management refers to a leadership style that emphasizes the
consideration of workers' needs, training and development, and motivation.
2. Boss management style:
Boss management style relates
more to the traditional approach to management with a strong top-down emphasis in which employees follow manager
direction. While some work environments are conducive to the boss approach,
coach management has become increasingly prominent and valued in workplaces.
If you consider this in
business dictionary terminology:
Boss is defined as an
individual that is usually the immediate supervisor of some number of employees
and has certain capacities and responsibilities to make decisions. The term
itself is not a formal title, and is sometimes used to refer to any higher
level employee in a company, including a supervisor, manager, director, or the
CEO. Whereas, Leader is defined as a person or thing that holds a dominant or
superior position within its field, and is able to exercise a high degree of
control or influence over others.
Of course, I agree with your
views on this topic that are valid too but I am not satisfied. Let’s see these
two terms - Boss and Leader for some extent view. Likewise, Boss and Leader are
categorized into parts - good versus bad. How?
Qualities of a Good Boss:
1. Decisive
2. Humble
3. Great Listener
4. Encourager
5. Courageous
6. Sense of humor
7. Communicator
8. Shares authority.
9. Shows empathy and
1o. Takes responsibility
Qualities of a Bad Boss:
1. Blank wall
2. Doubter
3. Secretive
4. Mistrusts
5. Indecisive
6. Arrogant
7. Blames
8. Bad – Temper
9. Self – Centered and
10. Intimidating.
Qualities of a Good Leader:
1. Vision to see future scope
2. Clear communication
3. Best of Best quality of
knowledge
4. Support the team
5. Encouragement – Positive attitude
6. Recognition – special skills
7. Stimulating work
8. Focus on the team interest
and needs
9. Inspiration
10. Integrity
11. Clear goals – perfect planning
12. Good example – Be like an
Icon. (An icon is a symbol). One can easily identify him / her in a group.
Conclusion:
1. Why boss cannot be called as
a Leader? Boss is good communicator and Leader is good in clear communication.
Hence, in bank, each branch
manager is called as boss but the head of the bank “CEO” is called “Boss”. So,
it is to be noted that the branch managers are called leaders not bosses as far
as the branch is concerned.
2. For Instance: XYZ Bank has a
20,000 working employees but the CEO might have known 2000 names of employees.
But In sub-branch wise list all sub –branches head managers behave like there
are the head of company.
But there are some branch employees
behave that “I am the Boss” attitude like giving heavy work to sub ordinates
including his work, using indecent words stating “you are not rich like me but
again high salary and reputation, etc., Thus, it should be noted that, CEO should
be noted that hire the candidate to the branch head and fire the unwanted
employee irrespective of any circumstances and encouraging new comers to the organization.
